Time running out for Sundin to climb off the fence

Here’s an excerpt from Globesports.com writer/Maple Leafs supporter, David Shoalts who clearly is a Habs hater and outright dismisses the Canadiens chances of landing Mats Sundin:

There was supposed to be a meeting yesterday between Sundin and Claes Elefalk, the Sweden-based representative of CAA Sports LLC, the agency that represents him. It was hoped Sundin might indicate which way he was leaning. But J.P. Barry of CAA Sports, Sundin’s chief representative, said the meeting was postponed until today because Sundin was entertaining other visitors at his home near Stockholm.

No, it wasn’t Bob Gainey or another NHL general manager. Just some friends, according to Barry. Besides, Gainey and the Montreal Canadiens were politely rebuffed by Sundin back in June when the Leafs gave them permission to negotiate exclusively with Sundin and Barry.

Shoalts continues his hatred of the Canadiens:

It seems Sundin would rather not anger Leaf fans by signing with the hated Canadiens.

The Canucks have that $10-million-a-year offer, but Sundin has never been motivated by money and it is hard to believe he would be willing to put up with all that travel on a non-contender.

So that may leave it between the Leafs and Rangers, who have cap room but are not a surefire Cup contender.
