From The Fourth Period:
With the Marian Gaborik trade watch in full flight, various rumors have suggested that the Montreal Canadiens are among the teams interested. According to Habs GM Bob Gainey, that’s not the case.
“First off, we haven’t been involved in anything with Marian Gaborik,” Gainey said. “Flat out, [we're] not involved.
“Trades happen when they’re right. It takes more things today to be positioned right.”
It’s been widely reported that the Gainey has held trade talks with Minnesota Wild GM Doug Risebrough primarily about Gaborik.
One player rumored to be involved in a deal for Gaborik is Canadiens winger Chris Higgins, who expressed his desire to stay in Montreal.
“I’ve been told [the rumors are] 100-per-cent speculative,” Higgins told the Montreal Gazette. “It’s nothing I’ve been concerned with.”

Ah, the media…
They fill a week’s worth of copy with idle speculation about a trade, then another week in discussing the fact that it was only ever idle speculation.
A “make work project”.
