For too many years already, the Canadiens have had a certain level of confidence in their abilities, but they simply weren’t tough enough to follow throw when confronted by bigger and tougher opposition.
It’s been over three years since Guy Carbonneau was connected to the Montreal Canadiens in an official capacity. Carbonneau was fired as head coach of the club on March 9, 2009. His accomplishments as a player date back much further with Carbonneau winning Stanley Cups with the Canadiens in 1986 and 1993 — he won a third Cup in 1999 with the Dallas Stars.
In case you missed it, last week was ᴫ (pi) day – March 14 or 03/14. With my nerdy background, that was enough to give a scientific spin to my piece. Thus, I figured it was the best time to bring out advanced stats.

With the team sitting dead last in the Eastern Conference and 27th overall in the NHL at the time of writing this article, no one in their right mind would disagree that the Canadiens are in dire need of change and that, at just about every level possible.
“And now, a twenty- fourth Stanley Cup banner will hang from the rafters of the famous Forum in Montreal.”
Everytime I read or hear that quote, forever immortalized by the voice of Bob Cole, goosebumps surface along the top of my arms and the back of my neck. Real tears fill my eyes as I relish in the glory of the Montreal Canadiens last conquering crusade to bring Lord Stanley’s Cup home.
