MONTREAL, QC. — Pictures of the new mask that Carey Price had designed especially for the Heritage Classic were released online today.

The mask was designed by David Arrigo, who has provided Price with many designs including the Canadiens Centennial mask, as well as the white rodeo-themed one he has worn throughout this 2010-2011 season.

It’s a nod to the evolution of hockey equipment, and perhaps an extension of the vintage-style uniforms both teams will be sporting for the classic. The front of the mask represents Jacques Plante’s original goalie mask design, as well as Plante’s eyes and mouth. The back depicts Carey Price’s own hair and ears.

I’ve certainly never seen anything like it. Post your thoughts in the comments section!

And don’t forget to watch the Heritage Classic on TSN, RDS, and CBC. Gametime is 6:00 Eastern.

About Rookie: Long story short: After two decades of not really understanding it, Erica (aka Rookie) gave in to one of the best things about being a Montrealer: the Canadiens. She'd been a rabid TV fan for years before, which explains why she might on occasion compare hockey to TV. Hockey fans and TV fans are from two different worlds. It's an interesting line to walk, but Rookie's trying to give you the best of both worlds. View author profile.
