Some time ago, political parties figured out that dumb people vote too. Why go to the trouble of presenting intelligent arguments in support of a platform that would only be fully understood by so few? There is a huge pool of the electorate that is easily influenced by other means.
The politics of division, negative ads, and fear mongering was popularized.
Over the course of the past few days, I’ve sat and listened intently as this ridiculous melodrama has played out…and I’ve finally reached a point where I feel I need to offer my two cents (regardless of how much it’s worth due to the current exchange rate between US and Canadian currencies – lol).
First let me congratulate Rick on not only writing these extremely intelligent, well-balanced pieces of journalistic GOLD but for also having the where-with-all to stand up to the bullies and territorial hounds who make up a growing portion of the MSM…it’s not often enough that their actions and words are held under a microscope.
Who says that you can’t quote Shakespeare in a hockey story? The reaction to The MSM Doth Protest Too Much, Methinks has been overwhelming.
Some people are disappointed that this has become such a combustible topic. Me too. Most fans have already moved on and enjoy their hockey coverage from many sources, both mainstream media (MSM) and non-traditional. They find the debate tedious.
There was an interesting sub-plot on Thursday during the Canadiens teleconference. For some in the mainstream media, it seemed to overtake their focus.
After waiting all summer, what could be more important than the signing of the team’s number one goaltender?
Turf.

by Rick Stephens, AllHabs.net MONTREAL, QC — Habs fans anxiously wait for news of Carey Price signing on the dotted line, the announcement of a Canadiens captain, and the debut of Mario Tremblay on RDS. Well, two out of three, anyway. At All Habs, we’ve spent the summer busily preparing for the new season by [...]
Habs Tweetup avatar posted by Rocket All Habs In my last article I talked about two different ways of assessing the strength of fanbases in sport. As you might expect fans of the Montreal Canadiens are in the top three in the NHL when evaluated on traditional metrics: ticket sales, television viewership and merchandise. However, [...]
by Rick Stephens, AllHabs.net MONTREAL, QC — This week Forbes magazine released their report titled “America’s Best Sports Fans.” It’s an interesting title for the piece given that the fans of the Montreal Canadiens are ranked No. 11. That’s you! To determine their rankings Forbes enlisted outside help to rank all teams from the four [...]
