UNB captures CIS University Cup: The #1-seeded University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds claimed their third title in five years by shutting out the #2 McGill Redmen on Sunday night by a count of 4-0.  Among the champions is 2010 Canadiens’ development and rookie camp attendee Marc-Antoine Desnoyers, who began his season with the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL and Peoria Rivermen of the AHL before joining the V-Reds.  He totaled a goal and four assists in 15 regular-season contests and two goals, two assists over the course of the playoffs.

Sick bay: The Montreal Canadiens have 194 man-games lost (MGL) to injuries up to March 24. Though it may seem that the Habs are approaching a record, they only rank 17th in the league. The Canadiens have lost only half the number of man-games as the Colorado Avalanche, with the Avs placing a distant second to the league-leading New York Islanders at a whopping 512 MGL.

About the Author ()

czechtacular (aka Kathy) is the former follower of a single team, whose interests still are and will always be number one in her book (she does write at All HABS, after all!) but making the jump to junior hockey in 2005 has resulted in, well, quite frankly, a mess that no one will ever be able to understand all at once. A former student of photography, history and communications, she has been to games of the NHL, AHL, QMJHL, CIS, LHJAAAQ, LNAH, and even the NWHL, and definitely doesn't intend on stopping there.

While Mirtle’s list is informative, here is a site James Mirtle himself made me discover last year, where a different approach is taken to evaluate injury losses by teams, in terms of salary loss by cap hit, cumulative minutes and average minutes of injured players…

Of course, this last compilation goes back to the end of February, but still paints a somewhat different picture.
